Should George Zimmerman face federal civil rights charges?
The Justice Department is now deciding whether to bring a federal civil rights case against George Zimmerman that could put him on trial again for the death of Trayvon Martin. The government would need to prove that his killing of the 17-year old Martin was racially motivated.
Could a federal trial satisfy the demands for justice over Martin’s death? Or would it further divide the country?
What would cause you to use MacArthur Airport more?
MacArthur Airport has seen a 46.4 percent decrease in commercial flights since 2007. Some Newsday readers blame high prices and inconvenient flight schedules. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) is working to attract additional airlines to MacArthur, and to build in a customs facility to allow for international traffic.

Should new drivers face harsher penalties for texting while driving?
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is proposing legislation that would impose tougher sanctions on new and inexperienced drivers for texting while driving. Under Cuomo’s proposal, all drivers would receive points on their driving record for texting, but drivers with learning permits or on probation would lose their license for 60 days upon conviction — potentially penalizing teens more than adults.
Does Cuomo’s proposal unfairly single out new drivers? Isn’t texting while driving a problem for all age groups? Or should all drivers be treated equally?
